Overall, this is an extraordinary album, both in execution and in effect. The combination of ensemble interplay, shifting timbres, and hypnotic loops makes it a work that reveals more with each listen. It’s compelling enough that I’ll be picking up a copy on vinyl, to experience its nuances in full richness.

I found this recording utterly enthralling. All 106 sections of ten Holt’s masterwork.

Snider stands beside her contemporaries without fear. Her sense of layering elevates her work, and the degree of care put into these is easily applaudable.

This reengagement with Canto Ostinato is remarkable from start to finish, at times dynamically breathtaking and at other moments soothing in its assured flow, an altogether deft blossoming anyone enthusiastic over contemporary composition needs to hear. Metropolis Ensemble, Sandbox Percussion, and Erik Hall have realized a work of great beauty beyond any reasonable expectation.

Between immersive storytelling and sonic refinement, singer Sarah Kirkland Snider explores themes of perseverance and transformation. This album presents itself as a luminous portrait of a composer with a profoundly expressive language.
