“Composer Sarah Kirkland Snider teams up with the Metropolis Ensemble on Forward Into Light. A modern classical blend, the project features four new works by Snider, a shining voice in the genre who has remained relevant through a continued sense of innovation and style. The musical narrative is inspired by Snider’s own struggles, as well as historical ones, like the women’s suffrage movement. These are well-balanced pieces which fill the space they inhabit. Snider offers evocative tracks and the ensemble delivers them with panache and precision…
…All things considered, the release exhibits a great wealth of neo-classical tunes that are innovative while still recalling former musical traditions and structures, and the ensemble is marvelous under the direction of Andrew Cyr, bringing Snider’s music to gorgeous heights. Though some compositions shine a bit more than others, there are no bad eggs in this Fabergé henhouse. Snider stands beside her contemporaries without fear. Her sense of layering elevates her work, and the degree of care put into these is easily applaudable.”
