Metropolis Ensemble’s KEXP Debut

PRESS RELEASE

June 17, 2026

KEXP presents Metropolis Ensemble, Erik Hall & Sandbox Percussion performing live in the KEXP studio. Recorded April 10, 2026.

We're thrilled to share our first-ever appearance on KEXP — Metropolis Ensemble, Erik Hall, and Sandbox Percussion, performing Simeon ten Holt's Canto Ostinato live in the KEXP studio. The large-ensemble arrangement was shaped in part by Metropolis's own David Leon, a key arranger on the project, who also performs in it.

For the uninitiated: KEXP is the legendary Seattle public radio station whose in-studio "Live on KEXP" sessions have become a global rite of passage for artists, watched by millions on YouTube and beloved for their pristine sound and intimate capture of musicians at their best. For a new-music collaboration like ours to be invited into that room — and to fill it with the hypnotic, hour-spanning pulse of Canto Ostinato — is a genuine milestone.

The Seattle stop was part of a larger West Coast arc for the project, which also traveled to Emerald City Music, the adventurous chamber series led by violinist and artistic director Kristin Lee — herself one of the violinists on the Canto Ostinato recording.
