Joshua Mastel
Joshua Mastel is an artist and composer whose work explores the expressive potentials of acoustic resonance, sonic perception, and the sense of temporal form. He frequently uses notated ensemble composition, DIY instrument building, extended microtonality, electronic sound design, and generative algorithms in pursuit of creating transformative musical experiences through live performance. In addition to this, Joshua has made experimental films alongside sound works.
Mastel’s work has been performed by ensemble mosaik, Yarn/Wire, ekmeles, Schallfeld Ensemble, and others at Ultraschall and Klangwerkstatt in Berlin, Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik and Klangspuren Festival in Austria, Rainy Days in Luxembourg, Tanglewood Music Center, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Festival El Contemporáneo in Tenerife, and Hangzhou Contemporary Music Festival in China.
He currently lives in New York City, where he is a doctoral candidate in music composition at Columbia University.
